Every day, lineworkers put their skills to the test to keep the lights on for our communities. But once a year, those same skills take center stage in a different way—through competition, camaraderie, and a whole lot of pride.

Welcome to the lineman’s rodeo.

Where It All Begins: Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo

Each May, lineworkers from across the state gather at Camp John Hope for the Georgia Lineman's Rodeo—a day dedicated to showcasing the strength, precision, and teamwork required in this profession.

From the ground up, this event mirrors the real challenges lineworkers face every day. Competitors climb poles, perform equipment installations, and execute rescue scenarios—all while being timed and judged on safety and accuracy.

But beyond the competition, the Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo is a celebration. Families, friends, and community members come together to support the men and women who serve on the front lines of power restoration. It’s a chance to see firsthand what it takes to do this job—and to appreciate the skill behind every flipped switch.

Taking It to the Next Level: International Competition

For some, the journey doesn’t stop in Georgia.

Each October, top competitors advance to the International Lineman's Rodeo in Kansas City—often referred to as the “Olympics of linework.”

Here, the stakes are higher, the competition is tougher, and the stage is bigger. Lineworkers from across the country—and even around the world—come together to test their skills in fast-paced, high-pressure events that demand precision, focus, and teamwork.

It’s not just about winning. It’s about representing your co-op, your community, and your craft at the highest level.

More Than a Competition

While the rodeo is exciting to watch, its purpose runs deeper.

Every event is rooted in safety and training. The same techniques practiced in competition are the ones used in real-life situations—especially during outages and emergencies. By sharpening these skills, lineworkers are better prepared to respond when it matters most.

The rodeo also strengthens the bond between crews. In a profession where trust is everything, that camaraderie can make all the difference.

A Community That Powers On

At its heart, the lineman’s rodeo is about more than poles and wires—it’s about people.

It’s about the lineworker who answers the call in the middle of the night.
The crews who work through storms to restore power.
And the communities who depend on them every single day.

From Camp John Hope to Kansas City, the lineman’s rodeo is where skill meets purpose—and where the best rise to the challenge.
