FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REYNOLDS | JANUARY 21, 2025

Due to the winter storm predicted for our service area followed by prolonged cold and icy road conditions, Flint Energies’ Member-facing offices will close at 1 p.m. today and will remain closed through Wednesday. Flint's Member call center will be open until 5 p.m. today and all day on Wednesday. Flint crews are on standby to handle any outages that may arise during this weather event.

Contact Flint Energies to report any immediate hazards like downed lines. Outage line: 1-888-354-6836. Calls are automated to ensure prompt attention and avoid a busy signal when high numbers of calls are coming in. Take care to stay away from downed lines.

The American Red Cross offers these tips for coping with cold weather, just in case:

• Have extra blankets on hand

• Ensure that each member of your household has a warm coat, gloves, and hat

• Know where you have your First aid kit and essential medications

• Be ready with a battery-powered NOAA Weather radio, flashlight, and extra batteries

• Listen to NOAA Weather Radio and your local radio and TV stations for updated weather information

• Stay indoors as much as you can

• If you must go outside, several layers of lightweight clothing will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat

• Understand the hazards of wind chill, which combines the cooling effect of wind and cold temperatures on exposed skin. As the wind increases, heat is carried away from a person's body at an accelerated rated, driving down the body temperature

• Check on a neighbor who may require special assistance--infants, elderly people, and people with disabilities

Flint also recommends these items:

• Keep your thermostat on the lowest comfortable setting

• To save money, minimize the use of portable electric heaters and know how to operate them safely if needed

• Protect pets and animals from the cold

• If your power goes out and you have a critical need for electricity, be ready to move to a safe location with power

• Update your phone number in the Flint Energies database by calling 800-342-3616 to make reporting an outage go smoothly and quickly if needed

• Program the Flint Energies power outage number 1-888-354-6836 into your cell phone

• If you do not have a cell phone, keep one corded phone in your home, because cordless phones will not work without power.
