Flint Energies employees are prepared for the effects of Hurricane Michael and are storm ready. We encourage our consumer-members to monitor the latest forecast information and prepare storm kits. Based on the current storm track, we expect a high wind event (up to 70 mph) that will topple trees into power lines and cause extended power outages lasting up to five days or more.
“We’re dedicated to minimizing any consequences from the storm,” says Marian McLemore, VP of Cooperative Communications. “We have secured additional line crews from as far away as Tennessee and Arkansas and will work to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible.”
Before the storm hits, we suggest members check the phone number and service address listed on their Flint Energies bill. If they are not correct, call 800.342.3616 to update with your current information.
To prepare for reporting outages, we encourage members to download the Flint Energies app, available from their device’s app store. Members should also program our outage number, 888.354.6836, into your mobile phone. Cordless interior phones will not work when the power is out. Outages can be viewed in real time at flintoutages.com. Members can get the latest updates through our Facebook page and website at flintenergies.com.
Check these areas to see if you're storm ready:
- Light - Secure flashlights, battery-powered lanterns and extra batteries. Avoid light sources that require a flame or fire.
- Water - If you depend on a well, fill bathtubs or other large containers for household use, like flushing toilets. Fill clean pitchers or jugs for drinking water. If you have livestock or poultry, secure a stand-by generator to run the well. If you’re on a community water system, listen for advisories to boil water in case water treatment plants are affected.
- Food - Nonperishable foods that don't need cooking are ideal, like canned fruit, powdered milk, peanut butter, bread and crackers. Don't forget a manual can opener!
- Information - Get a portable radio or TV with extra batteries for local information and a NOAA Weather Radio for weather warnings. A wind-up or battery powered alarm clock might come in handy. Remember to charge your cell phone or have a car charger.
- Loved Ones - Have a contingency plan in place for patients who have a medical necessity for electricity. This includes backup power, extra supplies or an alternate location until the outage if over.
